水合物技术在天然气储存、碳减排、海水淡化及蓄冷方面的创新应用。
The clathrate hydrate process is a technology enabler for several innovative applications like natural gas storage, carbon capture and storage, seawater desalination, cold storage etc. Some challenges remain specific to each of these focus areas that needs to be overcome in order to commercialize these applications. In this presentation, the state of the art on gas hydrate technology for two applications pertaining to natural gas storage and seawater desalination will be discussed in detail. Our recent advances on solidified natural gas (SNG), a next generation technology for large-scale natural gas storage will be presented. An application that has received renewed interest is seawater desalination using the clathrate hydrate-based desalination (HyDesal) process due to its ability to harvest LNG cold energy to produce water. Our recent knowledge on enhancing the kinetics and patented innovation in design can be applied to efficiently desalinate seawater.

Biography: Praveen Linga is the Dean’s Chair Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS). He is interested in both fundamental and applied aspects of research. His research interests are in the areas of clathrate (gas) hydrates, storage and transport of fuels, carbon dioxide capture, storage & utilization (CCS & U) and recovery of energy. His research group, LingaLab@NUS particularly focuses on enhancing the kinetics of hydrate formation for several systems of interest pertaining to carbon dioxide capture, storage and transport of natural gas as hydrates, sea water desalination and the recovery of natural gas from hydrate deposits. Up to date, he has published more than 100 research articles and has delivered more than 75 keynote/invited talks and seminars. His research has yielded more than 6100 citations with an h factor of 43. For his research, he has won numerous local and international recognitions/awards including the 2018 Highly Cited Researcher in Engineering by Clarivate Analytics, and the 2017 Donald W. Davidson Young Researcher Award for outstanding contributions to gas hydrate research. He serves as subject editor in Applied Energy journal and also as an associate editor in Journal of Natural Gas Science and Engineering. He was recently inducted as a Fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry.
